EBMA Level 8 Diploma in Strategic Health and Social Care Management is designed for senior professionals, executives, and aspiring leaders seeking to make a significant impact on health and social care systems at a global level. A strong focus is placed on research competence, ensuring graduates can design and deliver substantial, evidence-based projects that inform both academic discourse and professional practice.

The programme comprises eight units, with seven taught modules covering advanced leadership, governance, global policy, innovation, research methodologies, and performance frameworks. The final Strategic Research Project (60 credits) allows learners to produce a significant, original piece of work that demonstrates methodological rigour, critical insight, and real-world relevance.

Graduates of this qualification will be equipped to progress into senior executive roles, consultancy, policy-making, or further academic study at a professional doctorate or PhD level with our partner University. Ultimately, this diploma empowers learners to lead with authority, integrity, and vision, shaping the future of health and social care in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.

Course Structure

The overall structure of EBMA Level 8 Diploma in Strategic Health and Social Care Management is based on 8 mandatory modules that cover a number of topics relating to learning outcomes. Each unit has the equivalency of 20 credits. The research project has 60 credits. At the end of the course, the learner will achieve overall 200 credit points.

Unit 7: Strategic Change Management in Health and Social Care – 20 credits

Entry Requirements

To enrol on the Level 8 Diploma in Strategic Health and Social Care Management, learners are expected to meet the following criteria:

Academic Requirements

  • A Level 7 qualification (e.g., Master’s degree, Level 7 Diploma, or equivalent) in health and social care management, public health, nursing, social work, or a related discipline.
  • Alternatively, a Level 7 qualification in business, leadership, or management, combined with substantial professional experience in health and social care.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years’ senior management or leadership experience in health and social care or related sectors.
  • Applicants with extensive professional experience but without formal academic qualifications at Level 7 may also be considered under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) or equivalent professional pathways.

Language Proficiency

  • For non-native English speakers: an IELTS score of 7.0 or above (or equivalent qualification) is required, with no component below 6.5.
  • Evidence of prior study or professional practice in English may also be accepted.

Assessment

The methods for assessing student performance can be broadly summarised under coursework by following instructions for coursework. 

Unit 1: Strategic Leadership in Health and Social Care

Learners must demonstrate critical engagement with global health and social care policies, including the ability to analyse, compare, and synthesise international frameworks. Assessments should evidence deep understanding of policy formation

Unit 2: Global Health and Social Care Policy Development

Learners must demonstrate critical engagement with global health and social care policies by evaluating their effectiveness, sustainability, and equity. Assessments should show advanced ability to compare and synthesise different policy frameworks, using evidence from international contexts

Unit 3: Governance, Risk, and Ethical Management in Health and Social Care

Coursework only (critical evaluations, governance and risk management reports, case study analyses, and research-informed strategic proposals). Learners must critically examine governance frameworks, risk management systems, and ethical decision-making processes in health and social care. Assessment work should demonstrate the ability to integrate legal, ethical, and governance perspectives into strategic leadership and organisational practice.

Unit 4: Advanced Research Design and Methodologies

Coursework only (research proposals, methodological critiques, literature reviews, ethics applications, and pilot study reports).

Unit 5: Innovation and Digital Transformation in Health and Social Care

Coursework only (critical evaluations of digital innovations, case study analyses, research-informed strategy papers, and innovation frameworks).

Unit 6: Quality and Performance Improvement Frameworks in Health and Social Care

Coursework only (critical evaluations, performance improvement strategies, case study analyses, and research-informed quality frameworks).

Unit 7: Strategic Change Management in Health and Social Care

Coursework only (critical evaluations of change management theories, case study analyses, strategic change frameworks, and research-informed implementation strategies).

Unit 8: Strategic Research Project

Coursework only (research proposal, ethics submission, interim reports, and a final written research project of 20,000–25,000 words).

Learners are required to write an assignment of each unit. Assignments are important part of learners’ work at the Centre. There are strict rules about:-

  • Plagiarism – using another person’s words out of a book/ journal article/ conversation/ lecture without formally acknowledging it,
  • Referencing – how to reference and refer to another person’s work in your written work so you avoid plagiarism,
  • Word length of essays and reports,
  • Presentation and style of a report, including the style of language used, and
  • Learners are required to sign a declaration of authentication to confirm that the work is their own and that any assistance given and/or sources used have been acknowledged.

All learning outcomes must be assessed using assignment appropriate to the assessment of knowledge, understanding and skills. The Qualifications within this suite are vocational because they support a Learner’s career progression. Assessments will contain a question strand for each of the given unit’s Learning Outcomes. The assignment tasks will address the LO (Learning Outcome) and AC (Assessment Criteria) requirements. Within assignments there will always be requirements for Learner’s to engage with important and relevant theory that underpins the subject area

There must be valid, sufficient, and authentic evidence of all the assessment criteria.

Submitted assignments should be marked by an assessor. In order to pass a unit, a learner must achieve 50% marks in each assignment.

Assessors must plan, gather and then assess learner’s evidence according to level descriptors’ requirements and on the basis of Pass/Fail criteria.  These should be made available for internal verification to the centre Internal Quality Assurer (IQA).

EBMA External Quality Assurer (EQA) undertakes external moderation to monitor the assessment, internal moderation processes within the centre to make sure the assessment remains fit for purpose, and that the assessment process and practices by the centre continue to meet assessment standards requirements.
